Sun Interference with Garage Door Safety Sensors

Interference from sunlight and other light sources affects the operation of all Infrared (IR) sensors including single beam garage door safety sensors. For instance, when the sunlight hits the receiver, it can cause false blocked detects resulting in the door not closing. This common issue results in a phantom period during the day when the door is not able to close. This typically results in frustrated homeowners and expensive service calls which result in no hardware operational issues. During a service tech inspection, one of the first checks is to determine if the path of the sunlight might be the root cause. This common phenomenon renders the safety sensor's receiver blind during the direct sunlight exposure and therefore disables the closing operation of the door.
